The whole concept of blogging is a new one to me.  I am still not quite sure if it is a diary or a forum.  But, one of the things I would like it to be on this site, is a fun way to document the adventure that began for me in November of 2007.

October 31, 2008 became the day that I ceased working at a job, and began investing my time attempting to pursue the display and sales of the digital images I had been making over a 3 or 4 year period.  Earlier in the year as I had been pondering, praying about what was next in my life, I got an impression in my heart.  The words that go with that are “what is in your hand?”.  As that sought to answer that question, I realized that I had spent the last few years taking pictures of everything that moved (and some things that didn’t).  The result of that was literally thousands of images in many diverse categories.  I was a literal photo stock archive!  And a few- just a few- had something really special about them.  Not because I am such a great photographer, but because intermingled with the standard image was something more.

It was a great idea, with one major obstacle.  I would not be bringing in the income from a regular job, and I needed money to produce art to sell and display.

One day, I was at the home of a friend, visiting with other friends.  Someone asked me what I was doing, and I just happened to have some of the images in my car.  They asked to see them. Because they are praying people, I brought them in to both show them and ask them to pray a blessing over the work of my hands.  A little later, one of the ladies came to me and asked if she could invest in what I was doing.  I was stunned. I never, ever thought of that possibility. She had just sold a house and wanted to invest some of the money in some work that she believed God was doing, and she chose me.  I was speechless at the offer, and actually sat down and cried. That is one of the lessons I have learned in this saga so far.  When you invest your money in someone else’s success, the dividends gained are far more than monetary.  Sometimes the profits can be eternal.

The first venture out was a booth at the Holiday Market at The Farmer’s Market in Nashville.
My sister and I teamed together and manned (or womanned) the booth.  She is a very talented artist and we have partnered together in creative projects since the 1970’s.  (If you count our childhood, it would be earlier than that.)  We didn’t sell much, but met lots of creative people, laughed alot and had a yummy lunch.

Next, came a great opportunity.  There was the annual Artisan Fair & Holiday Boutique at Cummins Station in Nashville.  This was the first taste of actually selling some of the images I produced.  I also got to meet a bunch of fun and interesting people.  I did this event alone- all four Fridays.  That is significant only in that I am given to being a bit introverted.  I was out in unknown territory, which would become a way of life for me over the next few months.  If you haven’t already, read my blog from 7/23/08 entitled ‘Doing What You Cannot Do”, now would be a good time.  After you read that, you will understand this next sentence.  What I have done over the last 10 months is to go out onto the stage everyday, sit down at the beautiful piano, put my fingers on the keys and play an unknown tune.

More to come in the next blog.  Stay tuned………………..
And if you can relate to what I am sharing, or just want to respond, please consider hitting 'comment' and leaving me a message.  I would love to hear from you!  =)
