Next, came my very first time to be displayed in an organized Art Show. It was an event called "Strolling Through the Arts" in Springfield, TN. The location was the Epiphany Art Gallery on the square in downtown Springfield.
I entered two pieces in the show that were personal works. One was a framed 20" x 24" imaged entitled Neon Nashville, which was produced on metallic paper. Because the colors are so vibrant, the image almost pops off the paper! The other piece, Nashville Dreaming, is produced on canvas and framed with a large, ornate silver frame. It is a unique perspective on the Nashville skyline. I took the image down near the river, and there is a full mirrored image of the skyline in the river, which was just like glass that day. I rotated the image so that the mirror image on the water is the focus, with the actual image placed where the reflection should be. The result is something that resembles a painting. Really ethereal. I like to embellish the blue sky with a bit of sparkle. It is one of my favorite ones to produce.
Then, I also had 3 pieces that we done in collaboration with my sister. They were images of flowers- very close up- produced on gallery wrap canvas, and embellished by my sister. They turned out amazing.
I met a lot of people that night, and sold the Nashville Dreaming piece to a lady that was about to retire, and was going to start her own adventure in photography. It was a great night and lots of fun. I feel like it gave me a real boost of confidence!
A short time after that, a man asked me if I would like to take a digital image of the Nashville skyline that he was going to have produced on the side of a van he used for his business. I was so honored that he asked me! He had a very particular image that he had in mind, that had to be taken from a certain perspective. (Thank you, John, for believing in me!).
As it turns out, the day I decided to try to capture the image, I found out the only way I could get it was the side of the interstate. (Don't try this at home!). It was definitely not my best idea. While I was on the shoulder- with cars and trucks buzzing by me- I discovered that the only way I could get the shot, was to stand on the hood of my car. And that is exactly what I did. I did get a shot he could use which did indeed adorn the side of his van, but I also came to a pretty important conclusion. That was a one-time deal that I don't plan on repeating.
So, if you live in the Nashville area and see a ProCare van tooling around with a spiffy image of the Nashville skyline on the side... that was my side-of-the-interstate, crazy, once-in-a-lifetime images! =)
Stay tuned for more to come in Purejoy's Big Adventure, Part 5!
