This was a dream I had last night…

I was walking along a sidewalk in front of a school building and I looked down and saw a rifle lying in the grass.  Since I am not familiar with the different types of rifle, I couldn’t identify it.  It looked as if it had been modified some way.  The barrel had been cut off and the stock had also been removed.

After I saw it, I immediately entered the building to tell someone that they needed to come and get it before a young person found it and picked it up.  When I was almost in the building, I turned around and already there was a large group of kids surrounding it.

The next thing I knew, I walked back on the way to where the gun was and I saw people kneeling looking at the dirt near the sidewalk.  When I bent down to look, I saw cut jewels, like diamonds, rubies, emeralds and topaz.  They were all shapes and colors.

As I moved the dirt to the side, I found more.  I began putting them in my shirt tail that I had made into a place to hold them.  While I was doing that, two people that I knew walked up to me and told me that I shouldn’t be picking them up because they were from hell.  I just kept on picking them up.  What a crazy idea, I thought.  They stood and watched me continue to dig for treasure, waiting to see what could be found.

Then I noticed a small, Hispanic woman standing next to me.  I encouraged her to kneel down and join me in looking for a jewel of her own.  I indicated that I would help her find one.  I hadn’t been moving the dirt for long, until my eye caught a glint of the largest topaz I had ever seen.  It was a huge emerald cut topaz.  A delighted ‘Oh!” escaped from my surpised heart!  I heard the very same exclamation from the two women that had discouraged me from doing what I was doing.  We were all surprised with what I found.

It was at that moment that I remembered I was not looking for jewels for myself now, but I was helping the woman look.  I had the brief thought of keeping it for myself because of it’s size and beauty, and because I was the one that found it.  My next instinct was to hand it to her immediately so I would not be tempted to keep it.  I did so.  And when I did, she held it in both of her hands and drew it to her heart like a treasure.  She was still doing that when I got up to walk across the street.  I felt ashamed of myself that I would even consider keeping it before giving it to her.

Next, I walked across the street to a business, and it dawned on me that there just may be jewels in their dirt there also.  Before I thought about it, I started moving the dirt with my fingers in the area in front of that business, and sure enough there were jewels just underneath a thin layer of dirt.  At that point, a man emerged from the business and was watching me, but seemed pleased with what I was doing.

When I woke up from this dream, it was as if I had actually collected those jewels and not just dreamed about it.  When I closed my eyes for a moment, I could see those jewels clearly again and if felt like I actually possessed them, and not just dreamed about getting them.
